NFL 2024 – Super Bowl (Chiefs-Eagles)

February 9, 2025 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Well apologies for not posting in advance of the Championship round two weeks ago. The Cheifs were slight favourites at home against the Bills (-1.0), while the Eagles were 6-point favourites against the upstart Commanders. You can check the bet slips, but we had both the Chiefs and Eagles covering at home and setting up the matchup we have Sunday in New Orleans.

Craziest stat we uncovered this week is the Chiefs are undefeated in their last 17 one-score games. Mind blown! A more subjective opinion next, the Eagles have the most talented roster. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Chiefs have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. There are certain players you just don’t bet against. Tiger in his prime and MJ, ever. Betting against Patrick Mahomes, not matter how you feel about him and the Chiefs, might be seen as a highly questionable decision. Chiefs always seem to find a way.

We expect to see the first three-peat in NFL history on Sunday night in New Orleans. Chiefs will defeat the Eagles in a tight one and cover the 1-point spread.

Good luck and enjoy the game! Thanks for following us all season…it’s been lucrative! Until next year.

NFL 2024 – Divisional Round Playoffs

Turned out to be a lousy lineup of games on wildcard weekend. Only real excitement was the Commanders doinking into the next round and AJ Brown getting some pages in during the game. Eagles are brushing it off like its a common occurrence, but honestly, can’t say we’ve ever seen that before. All I know is that the Eagles passing attack will need to be way better if they hope to get by Matt Stafford and the LA Rams.

You know a storyline that I somehow receiving little, to no attention this week: Chiefs start their pursuit of a history smashing three-peat. And here we are talking about AJ Brown’s reading habits. Calling all Chiefs fans! Stand up!

We were cold last week against the spread, but think our picks this week will make up for it. Enjoy the games! Picks are in bold below.

  • HOU@KC-9.0
  • WAS@DET-9.0
  • LAR@PHI-6.0

NFL 2024 – Wild Card Weekend

January 11, 2025 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Finally!! Nothing better than playoff football in January! After a lucrative regular season, looking to roll that success into the playoffs.

On Saturday night we have a week 18 rematch between Steelers and Ravens and we anticipate a similar result. Ravens are going to roll the Steelers at home! The Saturday afternoon appetizer pits the Chargers against the Texans. Chargers have reversed their fortunes in close games this year, while it seems like the Texans never really hit their stride this year despite lofty expectations. We expect the Chargers will be able to neutralize the Texans offense and run down the clock with a run heavy offensive attack.

On Sunday, the Denver Broncos bring their number one rated defense to Buffalo to neutralize Josh Allen and the high octane Bills attack. While the old saying goes “defense wins championships”, maybe not tomorrow. We expect a tight matchup and the Bills won’t cover.

To finish off Sunday, we have two NFC matchups . The Packers visit the Eagles and the Commanders visit the Bucs in Tampa Bay. The first game features two banged up QBs and two elite RBs. Expect a run heavy attack from the Eagles in the first half to help Hurts shake off the rust and the offense to take flight in the second half. Packers will be without one of their start receivers and not sure if Love’s elbow will be an issue. In the late game, Jayden “I ain’t no rookie” Daniels will look to continue to defy rookie expectations and win his first playoff game. On the road none the less. We expect the rookie magic to flame out and the Bucs experience will be too much for the up and coming Commanders.

Finally, on Monday night, the Vikings and Rams will travel to Arizona to fight it out in the Climate Change Bowl. Thoughts to all those folks in LA that were impacted by the wildfires this week. We think Justin Jefferson and the Vikings will be too much for the much improved Rams but will keep the close game right to the end.

As always, this week’s picks are in bold below.

  • LAC@HOU+2.5
  • PIT@BAL-9.5
  • DEN@BUF-8.5
  • GB@PHI-5.0
  • WAS@TB-3.0
  • MIN@LAR+2.5

NFL 2023 – Divisional Round

January 21, 2024 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

How about them Cowboys?!?! Talk about laying an egg. Pretty remarkable the Packers had a bunch of backups taking snaps in the fourth quarter. Another rookie QB, CJ Stroud, looked like the real deal in Houston knocking off the heavily favoured Cleveland Browns. Unfortunate timing for Joe Flacco to remind everyone why he was sitting at home for the first half of the season.

Looking forward to this weekend, the Ravens and the 49ers will be rested and relatively healthy for their Saturday matchups against the upstart Texans and Packers respectively. As always, I’m sure the commentators will be lamenting the fact that it might take a quarter or two to shake off the rest after the bye week. Both the Ravens and 49ers are double digit favourites at home. Texans should be able to keep it close with the Ravens, while we expect the 49ers to roll and end Jordan Love’s impressive first season under centre with an empathic exclamation point.

As for the Sunday matchups, we have the Bucs visiting the Lions and the Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs visiting Josh Allen and the Bills in primetime. Baker Mayfield looked like a playoff MVP candidate last week, tossing out three TDs against a lackluster Eagles D. We don’t expect a repeat in the Motor City and expect the Lions to pound the rock with their impressive O-Line.

Who doesn’t like a trilogy? Nobody, that’s who. This time though the Chiefs will need to lead the comfy confines of Arrowhead to face off against the Bills behind the full support of Bills Mafia. Josh Allen and the Bills had their season end last year at home against the Bengals and will be looking to avoid a similar fate Sunday. The Chiefs D has been formidable all season and really flexed against the high flying Dolphins last week. This one will be close and might come down to whichever team has the ball last.

Picks are highlighted below:

  • HOU@BAL-10.0
  • GB@SF-10.0
  • TB@DET-6.0
  • KC@BUF-2.5

Divisional Round Record: 3-3

Regular Season Record: 124-122-11

NFL 2022 – Wild Card Weekend Picks

January 15, 2023 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

A day late on the post, but here we go! Playoffs baby! After an uneven regular season of picks, looking to run the table in the playoffs.

The pundits seem to think the Monday night game will be the most competitive. Dallas has stumbled badly into the playoffs, while the Bucs have been thoroughly unimpressive all season. Dallas is the better squad with the higher ceiling, just not sure they can regain their midseason form. Also, do you really wanted to beat against the GOAT in the playoffs?

All our picks are below in bold! See you next week.

  • SEA@ SF -9.5
  • LAC@JAX +2.5
  • MIA@BUF -14.0
  • NYG@MIN -3.0
  • BAL@CIN -8.5
  • DAL@TB +2.5
