NFL 2022 – Week 8 Picks

October 30, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

A couple of lines out there that have us wondering what we’re missing. But hey! We’re wrong all the time and every weekend has games that leave you saying “What you talking about Willis?!?!”. Regardless, I think this is the first time in Aaron Rodgers’ career that he is a double digit underdog, but I think this one is deserved. Bills are coming off of a bye week and are at home, while the Packers seemed lost against the lackluster Washington Commanders last week.

Neither New York team are getting much love from the sportsbooks this week. The 6-1 New York Giants are a 3 point underdog in the Pacific Northwest against the Seahawks, while the Jets are a home 2.5 home underdog against the Patriots at home. I think the Sportsbook are predicting Belichik’s reign over the Jets (maybe 14-0 since December 2015 or something crazy like that). Pats will be looking to rebound after an embarrassing performance on Monday night against the Bears.

The Giants on the other hand are travelling West to face the Seahawks. Both teams got lots of love from the talking heads this week as the two pleasant surprise teams of the season. Feels like one is primed for a disappointing performance this week as a result. Can you call it a revenge game for Geno Smith after the Giants cast him aside after his sole season and one start with the Giants? Regardless I think the Ken Walker III will stay hot and run all over the Giants.

Here are this week picks below in bold. Nice little bounce back last week, so let’s keep stacking winning weeks!

Thursday Night BAL @ TB

October 27, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

No doubt Al and Kurt were licking their chops when the schedule came out and Amazon had this game. Fair to say both teams have been fairly pedestrian this season. Bucs have looked bad on both sides of the ball and don’t seem to have any rhythm on offence. Ravens have been up and down, blowing lead and after lead in the second half.

Chris Godwin looks like he can’t get open and Mark Andrews is clearly dealing with an ankle injury that is impacting his play. He gave it a go last week against the Browns but only had two targets and no receptions.

The Bucs are at home and I think they are going to come out desperate with their playoff hopes quite possibly on the line. The Ravens secondary is weak and I think Brady and the Bucs receivers might take advantage and finally start to righting the ship. I’ve been bullish on the Ravens all season and they just keep disappointing against the spread. Injury status for both Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman aren’t great, so Lamar might be primed for an all-time Lamar balls out performance on primetime – running and diving and dancing all over the Bucs defence.

Fun Fact: Tom Brady has a 14-3 record all-time on Thursday Night Football

Picking a desperate Bucs teams as a two-point favourite at home to take advantage of a banged up and sub-par Ravens secondary.

Thursday night record: 2-5

Thursday Night NO @ARZ

October 20, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Can these Thursday night games get any worse? Last week’s barn burner was between the Commanders and the Bear. Unwatchable until the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter. At least there was some drama at the end on the last play of the game. Commanders hold at the call line on a catch that in real time looked like a TD. Commanders escape with a win despite another terrible performance from their QB. He just looks bad.

Arizona is a home 2.5 point favourite after scoring 9 points in Seattle Sunday. The Saints D couldn’t keep up with the Bengals receivers last week, but I think the Saints are going to be able to score some points against a disappointing Cardinals defence. I’m a little nervous about the return of Hopkins, but I can’t imagine that one guy back in the receivers rooms is going to cure Arizona of its offensive woes. They still have Kliff Klingsbury calling the plays, right? That ain’t good. Still nervous though. Going to take the Saints and the 2.5 points, just don’t call it a comeback after that beat down we took last week.

Thursday night record: 2-4

NFL 2022 – Week 6 Picks

October 16, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Lots of good football games this week. Well maybe only two on second thought. Chiefs and Bills and Cowboys and Eagles. We had another winning week last week, posting a 10-6 record against the spread. Let’s keep stacking winning weeks together.

Lots of games that are hard to handicap this week. Are the Packers going to bounce back in America at Lambeau? Who has the worst defence, Seattle or Cardinals? Feels like whichever team has the ball last might end up winning that one. Are the Chiefs going to find anyone else to catch balls from Mahomes this week? Can the Rams find a second option to Cooper Kupp? If not, a 10-point spread seems generous against the Panthers. Gonna fade the Broncos from here on out until Mr. Everything shows some semblance of his former self for multiple games. What’s going in Jacksonville after getting stoned by the Texans last week and blowing a huge lead against the Eagles the week prior?

No idea which teams are good or bad at this point. Just how the league office wants it. Any given Sunday!

Here are the week 6 picks in bold below:

  • BAL@NYG +5.5
  • CIN@NO +3.0
  • JAX@IND -1.5
  • MIN@MIA +3.0
  • NE@CLE -2.5
  • NYJ@GB -7.5
  • SF@ATL +4.0
  • TB@PIT +10.0
  • ARZ@SEA +2.5
  • CAR@LA -10.0
  • BUF@KC +2.5
  • DAL@PHI -6.5
  • DEN@LAC -4.5

Week 5 Record: 10-6

Season Record: 44-35-1

NFL 2022 – Thursday Night WAS@CHI

October 14, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Oh boy! Another barn burner of a Thursday night game. Wentz vs Fields. Dan “Dirty Dog” Snyder vs the NFL. Pretty sure everyone is rooting for the Commanders to get pummeled which results in Ron Riveria telling us again the real problem with his team. He walked back his post-game comments from the Dallas game during the week, but facts are facts: the Commanders DO have a QB problem and his name is Carson.

I can only hope that tonight’s game is of higher quality than that absolute tire fire between the Colts and the Broncos last week. From me the highlight of that game was the independent neurologist finally doing their job and ruling out Nyheim Hines within minutes of getting absolutely pasted in the first quarter. Good job, doc!

Have no idea what to make of Justine Fields at this point. Short week for the kid and I think he only has so many good throws in him every seven days and most of those were used up against the Vikings last week.

It either a pick em game or the Commanders favoured on the road by 1 point at most sportsbooks. I’m going to take the Commanders and that dreadful QB to cover. Gross!

Fun stat: Carson Wentz is 6-0 in Thursday night games in his career. That’s gotta mean something, somewhere right?

Thursday night record: 1-4
