Thursday Night BAL @ TB

October 27, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

No doubt Al and Kurt were licking their chops when the schedule came out and Amazon had this game. Fair to say both teams have been fairly pedestrian this season. Bucs have looked bad on both sides of the ball and don’t seem to have any rhythm on offence. Ravens have been up and down, blowing lead and after lead in the second half.

Chris Godwin looks like he can’t get open and Mark Andrews is clearly dealing with an ankle injury that is impacting his play. He gave it a go last week against the Browns but only had two targets and no receptions.

The Bucs are at home and I think they are going to come out desperate with their playoff hopes quite possibly on the line. The Ravens secondary is weak and I think Brady and the Bucs receivers might take advantage and finally start to righting the ship. I’ve been bullish on the Ravens all season and they just keep disappointing against the spread. Injury status for both Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman aren’t great, so Lamar might be primed for an all-time Lamar balls out performance on primetime – running and diving and dancing all over the Bucs defence.

Fun Fact: Tom Brady has a 14-3 record all-time on Thursday Night Football

Picking a desperate Bucs teams as a two-point favourite at home to take advantage of a banged up and sub-par Ravens secondary.

Thursday night record: 2-5

NFL 2022 – Week 6 Picks

October 16, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Lots of good football games this week. Well maybe only two on second thought. Chiefs and Bills and Cowboys and Eagles. We had another winning week last week, posting a 10-6 record against the spread. Let’s keep stacking winning weeks together.

Lots of games that are hard to handicap this week. Are the Packers going to bounce back in America at Lambeau? Who has the worst defence, Seattle or Cardinals? Feels like whichever team has the ball last might end up winning that one. Are the Chiefs going to find anyone else to catch balls from Mahomes this week? Can the Rams find a second option to Cooper Kupp? If not, a 10-point spread seems generous against the Panthers. Gonna fade the Broncos from here on out until Mr. Everything shows some semblance of his former self for multiple games. What’s going in Jacksonville after getting stoned by the Texans last week and blowing a huge lead against the Eagles the week prior?

No idea which teams are good or bad at this point. Just how the league office wants it. Any given Sunday!

Here are the week 6 picks in bold below:

  • BAL@NYG +5.5
  • CIN@NO +3.0
  • JAX@IND -1.5
  • MIN@MIA +3.0
  • NE@CLE -2.5
  • NYJ@GB -7.5
  • SF@ATL +4.0
  • TB@PIT +10.0
  • ARZ@SEA +2.5
  • CAR@LA -10.0
  • BUF@KC +2.5
  • DAL@PHI -6.5
  • DEN@LAC -4.5

Week 5 Record: 10-6

NFL 2022 – Week 5 Picks

October 9, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

That’s what I’m talking about! Belichick was right! You know what kind of squad you have after week 4 and we’ve got a WAGON! A nice little 11-4-1 record against the spread last week to get us trending in the right direction!

Back-to-back Thursday night games that were hard to watch, but for very different reasons. Tua with the ugly concussion (another one this past Thursday too, but this time Hines was ruled out 2 minutes after being taken off the field- coincidence, I think not!) and just bad football this week. Matt Ryan couldn’t stay on his feet and Russell couldn’t stop throwing up on himself. Thought the Broncos hired an assistant specifically to tell the Head Coach what to do at critical junctures of the game. It’s called situational football and I foolishly thought the reason you pay a Head Coach millions of dollars was to make tough calls. No, that’s silly! Regardless, Broncos still really stink at situational football. Kick the field goal! A totally over correction for that week 1 debacle in Seattle.

Anyways, lots of great games in week 5 and looking to carry the momentum forward and cash a pile more tickets on Sunday! Week 5 picks are highlighted in bold below:

  • NYG@GB -8.0
  • ATL@TB -10.0
  • CHI@MIN -7.5
  • DET@NE -3.0
  • HOU@JAX -7.0
  • LAC@CLE +1.0
  • MIA@NYJ +3.5
  • PIT@BUF -14.0
  • SEA@NO -5.0
  • TEN@WAS +1.0
  • SF@CAR +6.5
  • DAL@LAR -5.5
  • PHI@ARZ +5.0
  • CIN@BAL -3.5
  • LV@KC -7.0

Week 4 Record: 11-4-1

Season Record: 34-29-1

NFL 2022 – Thursday Night IND@DEN

October 6, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Hard to make sense of either team. Broncos are 2-2, but feel like they could be a 0-4 team. Meanwhile, the Colts tie the Texans and then beat the Chiefs. I says pardon!

Both teams are without their starting running backs and both defenses have been torched in recent weeks. Broncos are a three point favourite at home tonight. Broncos showed some offensive spark life in the second half of last week’s game against the Raiders. Broncos have more play makers on the outside and I expect their defense to start to round into form in the next few weeks. Without JT, I don’t see the Colts and Matt Ryan having much success this week. In spite of Russ and his dumb new football, Broncos -3.0 at home is the play.

Thursday night record: 1-3

NFL 2022 – Week 4 Picks

October 2, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

Thursday night was not a good look for the NFL. Feel for Tua and wish him an uneventful recovery on a schedule that makes sense for him. Kind of a gross way to start the week 1-0 against the spread, but facts are facts.

After another 8-8 week, here’s hoping we can finally sport an above .500 record and start making it rain. As Belichick coaching theory goes, you don’t start making adjustments to your squad until week 4. Week 4 is when it all changes for Bill and us!

Here are the picks this week in bold below:

  • MIN@NO +3.5
  • BUF@BAL +3.0
  • CHI@NYG -3.0
  • CLE@ATL +1.0
  • JAX@PHI -6.5
  • LAC@HOU +6.0
  • NYJ@PIT -3.5
  • SEA@DET -3.5
  • TEN@IND -3.5
  • WAS@DAL -3.0
  • ARZ@CAR -1.0
  • DEN@LV -2.5
  • NE@GB -10.0
  • KC@TB -1.0
  • LAR@SF -1.0

Week 3 Record: 8-8

Season Record: 23-25
