NFL 2023 – Week 2

September 17, 2023 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

What did we learn from week one of the NFL’s 104th season that will still be true at the end of the season? Lots of options to choose from including: the highest paid player in the league forgot how to throw the football (looking at you Cool Joe); Zach Wilson poised to steer the USS Jets into a playoff spot and draws inspiration from our man, Mr. Trent Dilfer; the Rams aren’t tanking, but the Giants might be; the launch of artificial turf’s farewell season; and might as well hand the Lombardi Trophy over to Kyle Shannon and the 49ers right now!

No matter the story line you’re buying or selling after week 1, one thing that has stood out above all else has been the sloppy play to start the season. So many turnovers, penalties and low scoring matchups to start the season. Expect the quality of play to improve as the season moves along just like it does every year, but if the Vikes-Eagles game on Thursday night was any indication we might have to wait until week 3 for teams to find their groove again after a long offseason.

From a betting perspective, we here at MVPSportsbook had a good start to season last week and we expect to cash even more tickets this week.

Finally, fun fact about us for some of our new readers: We have no idea how to bet Lamar Jackson and the Ravens ever! If you do, send us a lifeline please. So with that Sunday confession out the way, let’s start with the Ravens-Bengals matchup and go from there. All picks are highlighted in bold.

NFL 2022 – Week 16 Picks

December 24, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

It’s all about weather this week! Winter storms and frigid temperatures across much of the USA for Christmas!

Gonna be nasty weather in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. Taking all three homes teams in these nasty weather games.

Lions, Seahawks, and the Commanders are battling for a playoff spot. They are going to be hungry and they will keep it close in all of those games.

Rodgers and the Packers are hoping for a Christmas miracle in Miami, but we think they’re on Santa’s naughty list. Two teams are looking to bounce back after brutal loses in week 15, the Colts and the Pats. We think both squads will sleep walk through their matchups this week.

Merry Christmas and happy football weekend! Games all weekend! As usual, all picks are highlighted in bold below.

  • ATL@BAL -6.5
  • DET@CAR +2.5
  • BUF@CHI +8.0
  • NO@CLE -3.0
  • SEA@KC -10.0
  • NYG@MIN -4.0
  • CIN@NE +3.0

  • LV@PIT -2.0
  • GB@MIA -3.5
  • DEN@LAR +3.0
  • TB@ARZ +7.5
  • LAC@IND +4.0

Thursday Night SF@SEA

December 15, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

49ers are looking to lock up another division title in Seattle tonight and are -3.5 point favourites on the road. Seattle is looking to right the ship and string together a few wins to try and separate themselves from a crowded NFC playoff race.

Mr. Purdy looked like a giant killer against Brady and the Bucs last week, but we think it will be hard for Mr. Irrelevant to keep slinging the rock like a number one pick. Especially, on a short week , on the road, in one of the league’s loudest stadiums. Should be a good test for the new guy under centre.

Seahawks should be coming into the game with a little bit more desperation. In hindsight, the trip to Germany miss to have messed up the rhythm of the once first place NFC West team from the Pacific Northwest. Seattle should have Kenneth Walker III back in the line up which will give Geno some more leeway. He’s thrown a few more picks the last few weeks that might be the result of pressing the issue a little too much down field without an established running game. Expect the Seahawks to pound the rock and keep it close. Taking the Seahawks +3.5 at home!

Thursday Night Season Record: 4-12

Thursday Night PHI @ HOU

We’ve been terrible picking prime time games this year. Just terrible. So here’s to keeping it simple this week.

Eagles are good, Texans are bad.

Eagles are a 14 point favourite tonight on the road tonight.

Fly, Eagles Fly

The pick is in… EAGLES!!

NFL 2022 – Week 8 Picks

October 30, 2022 by mvphelps Leave a Comment

A couple of lines out there that have us wondering what we’re missing. But hey! We’re wrong all the time and every weekend has games that leave you saying “What you talking about Willis?!?!”. Regardless, I think this is the first time in Aaron Rodgers’ career that he is a double digit underdog, but I think this one is deserved. Bills are coming off of a bye week and are at home, while the Packers seemed lost against the lackluster Washington Commanders last week.

Neither New York team are getting much love from the sportsbooks this week. The 6-1 New York Giants are a 3 point underdog in the Pacific Northwest against the Seahawks, while the Jets are a home 2.5 home underdog against the Patriots at home. I think the Sportsbook are predicting Belichik’s reign over the Jets (maybe 14-0 since December 2015 or something crazy like that). Pats will be looking to rebound after an embarrassing performance on Monday night against the Bears.

The Giants on the other hand are travelling West to face the Seahawks. Both teams got lots of love from the talking heads this week as the two pleasant surprise teams of the season. Feels like one is primed for a disappointing performance this week as a result. Can you call it a revenge game for Geno Smith after the Giants cast him aside after his sole season and one start with the Giants? Regardless I think the Ken Walker III will stay hot and run all over the Giants.

Here are this week picks below in bold. Nice little bounce back last week, so let’s keep stacking winning weeks!

  • DEN@JAX -1.5
  • ARZ@MIN -3.5
  • CAR@ATL -4.0
  • CHI@DAL -10.0
  • LV@NO +1.0
  • MIA@DET +3.5
  • NE@NYJ +2.5
  • PIT@PHI -10.5
  • TEN@HOU +1.0
  • NYG@SEA -3.0
  • SF@LAR +1.0
  • WAS@IND -3.0
  • GB@BUF -10.5
  • CIN@CLE +3.0
